Edible Christmas Wreaths
Your Christmas door wreath is an opportunity to show your personality and unique interests by incorporating different elements into the design to create a subtle (or not so subtle!) theme. If you consider yourself a foodie, it's very easy to include lots of edible embellishments on your wreath. If you were hosting a Christmas meal you could even include specific elements from your party menu on the wreath and see if any of your guests can guess the menu based on your decorations.
You have the option of purchasing dried fruits & spices which are already prepared for crafting or you can get creative with what's on offer at your local greengrocers. Depending on what you choose, you could use them as is or prepare them in a food dehydrator. Things like lemon, lime, apple & chilli peppers need to be dried out first as they are prone to rotting. Other more hardy items such as artichoke or mini squashes can be used as is. You may even want to spray paint your fruit for a glam look, with metallics being particularly festive.
In a workshop we hosted for Sipsmith Gin we utilised some of the botanic elements used to infuse their gin. Cinnamon sticks, oranges and lemons are all relatively easy to source so we sought out more unusual elements to include as well such as juniper berries and liquorice roots to ensure the wreaths were really personalised.
As with any embellishments on your Christmas wreath, you will need to create an anchor point with wires. The wired fruits can then easily be attached by pushing the wire through the wreath base. For any parts that cannot be easily wired, a glue gun can be used to attach them to already wired pieces for ease.
